All of our packages are based upon installation in a basic home with common requirements.  These requirements are not fixed, and in most cases only require some minor changes to be made.  These changes can be done by the homeowner or can be added onto the package of your choosing.

Prior to any purchase, a site inspection is required to check these requirements at a minimum.

These requirements only concern the existing light switches/dimmers that you want controlled, all the lights & bulbs attached to those switches/dimmers, and the entire wall plate that the switches/dimmers in question reside in.

Are any of your existing switches/dimmers that you want controlled, toggle or knob style?

Lutron RadioRA 2 dimmers and switches are rectangular.  This will require that any wall plate which will contain a controlled dimmer/switch, be of the rectangular variety.

Changing wall plates will also require all the existing dimmers/switches in those plates to be converted to the rectangular variety.  This can be handled by the homeowner or added onto the package of your choosing.

Are any of your bulbs/lights that you want controlled, LED, Compact Fluorescent (CFL), or Fluorescent (tube) bulbs?

Lutron RadioRA 2 dimmers require the use of halogen or standard incandescent bulbs.  Remember, dimming any bulb reduces the energy it uses.

If you wish to control LED, CFL, or Fluorescent bulbs then you will have to use RadioRA 2 switches.

Do your lighting loads (for the lights you want controlled) fall under the limit for the dimmers within your package?

Although derating may apply, a basic way to check this is to add up the wattages of all the bulbs that are controlled by the dimmer/switch that will be changed.  For example, if you have 10 pot lights that are all controlled by one dimmer/switch and each pot light is 50 watts, then 10 x 50 watts gives you 500 watts on that dimmer/switch, and that falls under the Lutron RadioRA 2 600 watt dimmer.

Do you have an existing wifi (wireless) network?

A wifi network is only required if you wish to use the Home Control+ application.

Do you have aluminum wiring?

Lutron RadioRA 2 devices are only approved for use with copper wiring.  If you have aluminum wiring, this will require the consultation of an        electrician.  Most homes built after 1980 do not have aluminum wiring.
